C++/VB - Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed. Can't playback this DVD-Video disc

Asked By Siegfried Heintze on 04-Feb-07 01:51 PM
I just download the directX SDK and I am trying to make the example
R2\Samples\Multimedia\DirectShow\DVD" work. Back in 2003, it worked.

Now, however, after I compile it and try to run it I get the following
dialog box:

disc."

This is the original disc "Brave Heart" I bought from the store, not a copy!
I see taht "The Terminal Works". Why not "Brave Heart"? What is the problem?

Thanks,
Siegfried

What version of Windows are you running?

Whose MPEG-2 decoder do you have installed?

Does it pass the MS checkup utility?

Windows XP Server 2003 service pack 1.

When I run the MSCheckup utiltity it takes me to the
http://www.cyberlink.com/winxp_plugin/2006/enu/index.jsp. This looks
familar.

I get a yellow triangle with an "!" in it. CyberLink Video /SP Decoder.
CLVSD.ax version 5.0.0.1031, MCE Compatible, Preferred Decoder.

Then it says "This decoder is compatible with the Windows XP Media Center
Edition; however, it is not compaible with the synchronization features of
Media Player 10. To use Windows Media Play 10 ot synchronize MPEG-2 encoded
content (such as .dvr-ms files and some .avi files) to a portable device,
you must install and upgraded versionof the decoder. To check if an updated
version is available from the vendor's Web site, clieck "Check for Update".
A web-page requiest will be set to Microsoft and forwarded directory to the
vendor for this decoder.

Hmmm... It seems strange that I would need an update to play such an old
movie. I used to play this movie (Brave Heart) with an earlier verion of
cyber link's power dvd that I purchased in 2003 (I have the installation CD
in my hand, but I cannot find a version number on it!) on Windows XP.

Are you suggestion an upgrade of PowerDVD would fix the problem?

Thanks,
Siegfried

Not all dshow and multimedia components are installed on Windows Server
2003. For example, Windows Media Player is not supported on this version
of Windows. AFAIK, there isn't a Windows version called "Windows *XP*
Server 2003".

It's possible that some of the underlying components were updated with SP1
or another Windows update.

I don't know for sure but it's worth a try.

By this I mean WMP 11. And, AFAICT, the downloads site doesn't support
downloading versions for Windows Server 2003.
