Need a local copy of ws2_32.dll, but it doesn't work out of system

We struggle with contiguous VM space for a particular application, so I
rebase local copies of a number of Windows DLL's. On moving from Windows 2000
to Windows Server 2003, I find that a local (but unchanged) copy of
WS2_32.DLL no longer works in some respect. Is there a known restriction
introduced in version 5.2 of this DLL, compared with version 5.0?
