Hello Chu, yes that modem handles DTMF just fine. Like all modems, it has a
set of standard issues, such as not detecting voice connect. You can see an
entire list of modem issues in our white paper about TAPI and voice modems:
http://www.exceletel.com/support/hardware/VoiceModems/index.htm
There you will even see a picture of your modem ;) We worked with
Multi-Tech on their INF file. If you have problems, let me know. It is one
of the best voice modems to use with TAPI, but as you already noted,
something like the Hi-Phone or a SIP TSP and "localhost" on your machine
would be better because no modem yes has its own TSP, they use the windows
UnimodemV.
We are a TAPI tools manufacturer (TeleTools) so as you can imagine, I have a
ton of hardware to play with, but for prototyping, nothing beats the SIP
solution or a Hi-PHone. With SIP, you can then even expand and get a bunch
of VoIP lines and test in the real world. So you can test either by dialing
your localhost and a softphone, or with actual VoIP lines when you are ready
to add lines that you actually have to pay for :)
