TAPI Log in Japanese/Chinese?

Asked By mikenac

I have enabled trace logging for the TAPI services as per:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816110/en-us

When I open the log (TAPISRV.log/TAPI32.log) the contents look like this:

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

My local is english/US. I am having TAPI problems and need these logs. Any
ideas?

Thanks.

mikenac, when you say your "local is english/US", is this refering only to

mikenac,
when you say your "local is english/US", is this refering only to the
settings in control panel,
or is the OS itself an EN-US version. Or is the OS itself a Japanese/Chinese
version?
I guess the logs are always in the language of the OS and hence may differ
from the actual local settings.

Please attach an original log file for reference.

What OS/SP are you using?

What TAPI problems do you actually have?

I guess I am not sure how to attach any files here.

My OS is the English version from MSDN. Windows 7.

The problems I am having are strange. I am using Julmar's Tapi2.x interop
since our application is written in C#. The application has TAP/IXO paging
for notifications, and that is where I am having issues. The Julmar component
gives me back a handle for the COM port communications. Most of the time the
application works fine. I have a separate thread for reading data/events from
the COM port after connection. At some point, something goes wrong. I will
never get any data back from the handle/port, but I will also not get any
exceptions/errors. TAPI is still able to dial the modem and connect, but I
will never get anything back from the port. The Telephony service will not
restart at this point, and only a reboot clears this condition.

I was hoping that this log would help me to find out what is going on.

mikenac, when using Outlook Express as newsreader then you can simply attach

mikenac,
when using Outlook Express as newsreader then you can simply attach files
while writing a message.

I have not tried the OS internal TAPI tracing with Win7 yet.

It seems that you are using UniModem TSP.
It is the TSP thast is responsibe for the comm stuff, not TAPISRV itself.
The mentioned log do not cover specific TSP output, so I doubt that they will
help much in your case.
Maybe just regarding the Telephony service not restarting issue.
See my TAPI and TSPI FAQ:
Q: How can I stop TAPISRV process (if Telephony Service is not responding in
Service Control Manager) ?

Regarding the comm issue you may want to check the UniModem TSP modem log
and post it here.
